Calcium hypochlorite or as known as calcium oxychloride is an inorganic compound with the formula Ca(ClO)2. Its molecular weight is 142.974 g/mol, its CAS number 7778-54-3, and HS code 28281Cemented Carbide Inserts 000. Although some commercial samples make it looks yellow, it is white, solid, and has the shape of granular powder. It is a good chlorine derivative and can detach chlorine upon reactions. Calcium hypochlorite suppliers say this compound can react with carbon dioxide to establish calcium carbonate and releasing dichloride monoxide. Likewise, It can also react with hydrochloric acid to establish calcium chloride, water and gasiform chlorine.

It can be divided based on its form. First, as dry or anhydrous form. Second, as a hydrated form. So it gives a basic aqueous solution. Suppliers say that it is more stable than chlorine although its scent of chlorine is stronger. Also, it is not highly soluble in hard water so it is more preferably used in soft to medium kind of hard water. So, this characteristic leads companies to buy it from suppliers because it is widely used in several industries such as disinfectant & cleaning, textile, water purifying and more. It also acts as a chemical intermediary to manufacture various chemicals. Moreover, suppliers trade-off that chemical to companies that use it as the main active ingredient of some commercial products such as chlorine powder, bleaching powder, or chlorinated lime. These commercial products used as a bleaching agent for water treatment.

Hydrated calcium hypochlorite is more secure to be handled. For safety reason, calcium hypochlorite suppliers recommend to stored it dry and cold, away from any acid, organic materials, and metals. If calcium hypochlorite accidentally mixed with a strong acid like hydrochloric acid, suddenly outgassing of toxic and corrosive elemental chlorine can happen.

To know how to choose the best calcium hypochlorite supplier, there are a few constraint to be concerned. First, the manufacturing process. Suppliers state there is two types of calcium hypochlorite manufacturing processes:

Calcium Process

This can be said as calcium process when chlorine is added to calcium hydroxide and producing calcium hypochlorite, calcium chloride, and water as the final result products. Nevertheless, this method is not very effective and becomes obsolete. This method has been replaced by the sodium process, which supports 70% of the total production.

Sodium Process

It also produces by using sodium process after adding chlorine to calcium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide. This mixture producing calcium hypochlorite, calcium chloride, sodium chloride, and water as the final result products. If all these products combined together with calcium hydroxide will react and establish a product called bleaching powder.

Besides the manufacturing process, the second constraint to be concerned before choosing one of suppliers is the grade of that chemical. Suppliers say there are three grades of calcium hypochlorite. They are food-grade, industrial Tungsten Carbide Inserts grade, and electron grade.

The third constraint is the appearance of this chemical. There are two types of appearance that suppliers can offer. They are granular type and tablet type. The tablet type can be modified into shapes and masses. For example, there are oval tablets with 7 or 10 grams. Suppliers can adjust the appearance depends on the buyer's demand.

The fourth constraint which is the last constraint, thing to be concerned about before buying this compound is the packaging. There are several types of packaging. But, calcium hypochlorite supplier commonly offer 400 @ 45kg drum 18MT / 20'FCL packaging.
